Naghol: Vanuatu Land Diving
The following pictorial is a representation of Naghol; a land-diving ritual rite of passage performed on the Pentecost Island of the South Pacific nation of Vanuatu and precursor to the widely known activity bungee jumping. The purpose of this analysis is to identify Non-Western practices of production and the cultural influence and symbolism that it displays.
This pictorial map will discuss the cultural history of the Pentecost islands, Nahgol as a ritual, preparation process, traditional attire, and the evolution of Nahgol as an expression of cultural identity.
